About Babbloom

An independent baby-name reference built by an editorial team that actually reads the etymology.

What Babbloom is

Babbloom is a free, ad-supported reference for parents choosing a baby name. We catalog 75,000+ names across every major religion and country, each with a verified meaning, origin, gender association, and cultural context. There's a name wheel for when you want to be surprised, a finder for when you know what you're looking for, and detail pages for when you want to sit with a single name.

Our editorial methodology

Every name in the Babbloom catalog is reviewed against at least two independent etymological or cultural sources — academic dictionaries (Oxford, Cambridge, Behind the Name), religious texts (Quran, Bible, Torah, Vedic literature, Sanskrit dictionaries), and native-language references. Meanings are written in plain English, kept short, and never machine-generated. Origin fields describe the language of first attestation, not the country of current popularity.

Religious classification (Muslim, Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, secular) reflects the tradition in which the name is most commonly given today, not the only tradition that uses it. Many names cross traditions — Maryam/Mary/Miriam, Yusuf/Joseph/Yosef — and we cross-link between them.

What we don't do

  • Generate meanings with AI. Every entry is human-reviewed.
  • Sell or share user data. There are no accounts and no tracking beyond standard analytics and ad measurement.
  • Rank names by "popularity" without a source. Our top lists cite SSA, ONS and other national registries where available.
  • Publish names we can't verify. If a meaning is disputed, we say so on the detail page.

Editorial team

Babbloom is edited by a small team with backgrounds in linguistics, religious studies, and family journalism. Read more on the editorial team page.
